Me and my kiddo reading bedtime stories

One of my favorite things about parenthood is bedtime stories — the silly, One-Foot-Two-Foot variety, the classic fairy tales and even the superhero adventures.

Whether my kid and I are laughing or held in suspense, between the pages of a book, there’s always an opportunity to impart a lesson or draw a connection to our lives. It turns a cuddly moment (nice!) into a teachable moment (even better!).

This issue very much captures that energy, with many of our stories and subjects consciously thinking about ways to make the industry better — and looking for opportunities to pass those lessons on to others.

In our feature story, Contributing Editor Joanne Cleaver talks with founders about very literal family teaching moments, exploring what happens when the family business is meat, but one member wants to steer into the alt-meat arena.

From Singapore, Keri Matwick, the subject of our Thought Leader interview, talked with Editor in Chief Lisa Keefe about what alt-protein companies can learn from Asian culture and society as it aims to create products for that market.

Karsten Schellhas, in his bimonthly column, offers his best advice for an industry that needs a bit of the insight he gained through years in the conventional meat industry.

And on page 10, we challenged industry leaders to think about how consumer desires differ in different regions — and how those differences can inform next steps to move meat analogues into the future.
